Why I started Finding Your Village

I was 7 months pregnant and soaking my round belly in the bathtub while listening to a podcast. A random thought entered my brain…what if I started a podcast?!?

I thought, I love podcasts, but what would I share about? I looked down at my big belly and smiled. About 100 different conversations that I have had with friends, midwives, family members, pediatricians about birth and postpartum flooded my brain. I knew right then that if I decided to do this big scary thing, motherhood and the early days of parenting was exactly what I would talk about.

The thing that I love about podcasts is that it is like having a conversation with a friend. Although there is no out-loud back and forth, there is definitely a dialogue between host and listener. This is what happens in my brain when I listen to podcasts anyway…

I crave having conversations about motherhood…the good, the bad, the smelly. I want to know that others in my stage of life (or who have been in my stage of life) have thought the same things and been through the same struggles that I have. Also, as I have embarked on this parenting journey I have said to myself at least 1,000 times: I had no idea ____ was a thing! How have I gone 30 years and not ever heard about this universal hardship that over 50% of the population has dealt with!

Therefore, I decided to start having my own conversations about these topics, with myself and with experts and I recorded them and shared them with anyone who would listen. If you have listened, thank you. I am in this with you and I am here to keep having conversations about birth, postpartum and parent mental health.
